WELCOME to Bronzeville-Milwaukee! The
Publishers Group invites you to a world of discovery, exploration
and celebration of a historical era in Milwaukee that produced a
hard working, entrepreneurial class of African-Americans. Bronzeville
was a place bordered by State Street to North Avenue and Third to
Twelve Streets. It was a diverse business community (Germans, Jews
and Italians) where African-Americans settled and thrived after
their migration from the segregated South in the 30’s 40’s
and early 50’s. In searching for employment and better living
conditions in a segregated Milwaukee, African-Americans built a
city within a city BRONZEVILLE.
BRONZEVILLE-MILWAUKEE.COM
will bring a renewed vibrancy to a historical
time gone by. You will learn about other Bronzeville communities
in Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit. We invite you to discover the
people that created a lifestyle of hard work, tenacity, great style
and elegance. Their stories teach us about ourselves and the future
of the African-American community. We are looking forward to the
ongoing development of the site with tributes, personal stories,
cultural events, interactive school curriculums and a virtual walking
tour- Streets of Bronzeville..
Bronzeville-Milwaukee .com is
dedicated to the enduring spirit and hard work of the grandparents
and parents of Bronzeville. A champagne toast to all…
